Free Pattern
Materials Used:
2 colors of Plymouth Encore Worsted Weight (used very little of two skeins of yarn)
1- US #5/3.75mm circular needle
1- Tapestry needle
Sizes:
New Baby
12 month +
Notes: In order to make the cast on and bind off match, I used long tail cast on and Elizabeth Zimmerman’s “cast off”. You can find more information on this cast off HERE.
New Baby:
CO: 68 sts in contrast color. Join to work in the round. Knit a few stitches and place stitch marker. (The stripes won’t match up exactly, but this will be covered up by the flower.)
Rows 1-6: K3, P1 in main color
Row 7: K3, P1 in contrast color
Bind off. Weave in ends.
Top with Flower of your choice.

Thanks for the pattern! I actually tried this last night on a 5 circular needle, but I could not knit in the round, the stitches wouldn't stretch around the circle, any suggestions? Maybe my cast on wasn't loose enough..

ReplyDeleteKim, I have an extra headband knitted up that I was going to measure for you but we're trying to sell our house and a lot of my knitting stuff is packed away in storage and I haven't found it yet. But if I get time, I'll look for it some more and post the measurements for you.
ReplyDeleteI didn't ever knit a gauge swatch because it would take about as long to knit a swatch as it would to make a headband. But the great thing about these headbands is that the rib makes them super stretchy, so getting an exact size isn't terribly important. And babies grow so quickly that if it's a little bit big, it's okay, because it'll fit soon.
I am so in love with this pattern! I've been wanting to make it for the longest time, and now I finally have someone to make it for. I am half way through with the New Baby size and it is just too cute. As I was knitting I came up with the idea to make a matching headband for the baby's 3 y/o sister. Does anyone know if the 12+ month size is big enough or if I should add a few stitches?

wrong especially as its ribbing new knittings won't have a clue where they are going wrong....
for this ribbing pattern you need to alternate rows
so row 1 is K3, P1 in main color
row 2 is p3 , k1
continue this pattern for 6 additional rows (8 altogether).
final row 9 change colour Row 9: K3, P1 in contrast color
cast/bind off
I think the pattern is correct for knitting in the round. Your directions would be correct if using two needles.
