I just finished making hats for my nieces, Abby and Lexie. I adjusted Grumperina's
Odessa hat pattern to fit a 5 year old:
I love the look of this hat!
I also added a few of the left over beads from the Odessa, because Maddie said that Abby would be sad if her hat wasn't as "pretty" as Lexie's. Apparently when you're a little girl, beads = pretty.
I just discovered your knitting blog! I love it. I am going to have fun watching it. I made that butterfly hat too! But I just made it into a headband instead of a hat. I made a bunch that I was going to sell but never did...Hmmm. I forgot about that.
ReplyDeletewhat beautiful hats! my boyfriend has twin 8 year old nieces that these would be PERFECT for. how many stitches did you cast on to accomodate for the 7 year old size? thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks Corrie! If I remember right, the only changes I made to the pattern was to use smaller needles (US 4&6) and I did 1/4” less ribbing to make for my 7 year old niece.
ReplyDeleteHow did you add the beads? Did you just sew them on?
ReplyDeleteHi Ashlie, I pre-string the beads and slide them up as I knit. Although, I'm sure you could sew them on if you wanted to.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! One more question - did you use DK weight yarn for both of them? Your butterfly hat looks like it isn't as thick as the original pattern and I like the look of yours bettter :o)
ReplyDeleteHey Corrie, I used Fantasy Dark Horse Yarn for these hats... which according to Ravelry, is Aran / 10 ply. But I'm not sure how accurate that is. Is that helpful? I don't know. :)
